All is not well within the Republican party. The Republicans appear to walk in lockstep as they appeared on televised Congressional hearings. Both Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee Doug Collins (R-GA) sang their complaints from the same shrill songbook. Still, there is a Republican on the warpath against another Republican.
Donald Trump Jr. tried to take down one of the West Virginia Republicans, the would-be U.S. senator complained, according to NBC affiliate WTAP News. Former Massy Energy CEO Don Blankenship brought a defamation lawsuit against the president’s eldest son who tweeted:
‘I hate to lose. So I’m gonna go out on a limb here and ask the people of West Virginia to make a wise decision and reject Blankenship! No more fumbles like Alabama. We need to win in November.
Political reporter for CNN, Dan Merica tweeted a quote by Blankenship:
‘Trump’s son urges West Virginia Republicans to reject Blankenship, who responds by labeling
@DonaldJTrumpJr part of the “establishment”‘
That was when the president’s son retweeted Merica along with a very ugly message:
‘Donald Trump Jr. Retweeted Dan Merica: Ha, now I’m establishment? No, I’m realistic & I know the first thing Manchin will do is run ads featuring the families of those 29 miners killed due to actions that sent you to prison. Can’t win the general… you should know that & if others in the GOP won’t say it, I will.’
The West Virginia candidate just issued a press release about his lawsuit against Don Jr. for:
‘…his role in spreading what President Trump calls “fake news”.’
Apparently, the coal magnate has claimed that the president’s son was involved in a conspiracy with the Republican party that sabotaged his senate campaign in 2018. He believed that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and the Washington “DC establishment” were behind the conspiracy.
Blankenship was charged with a misdemeanor charge of willfully conspiring to “violate mine safety and health standards” and found guilty. However, the former CEO said he was “falsely charged with three felonies” after a tragic mining explosion that killed 29 miners in 2015. They died in the Upper Big Branch mine.
In his lawsuit, Blankenship has requested damages for:
‘…defamation, false light invasion of privacy, and an injunction against trump junior to have the tweet removed from public access.’
The court suit read:
‘So too is the establishment media’s bloodthirsty desire to destroy those with whom they disagree politically. We live in an age of weaponized defamation where lies can be repeated in more ways at more times in more places with more speed than anyone could possibly have imagined even five years ago, much less 1964 when the seminal case in the areas of defamation of public figures was decided.’
The former CEO has also filed lawsuits against 75 news agencies for “weaponized defamation.” He claimed that he lost his Republican primary bid, because voters said he was a “felon.”
‘Donald Trump Jr. tweeted that Mr. Blakenship was a ‘felon’ after meeting with, and as part of a scheme with, NRSC leadership seeking to prevent Mr. Blakenship’s victory in the primary.’
The lawsuit alleged that the president’s eldest son was one of the Senate majority leader’s “surrogates:”
‘Mr. Blankenship is well-acquainted with the rough and tumble of politics. This is not that.’
