Impeachment Poll Hits Media Waves, Trump Loses His Sh*t

Trump’s pick for attorney general, William Barr, accomplished exactly what he set out to do with his summary of the Mueller report and his impromptu press conference the morning of its release. Republicans are utterly convinced, despite the line from the Mueller report that specifically states that it does not exonerate the president, that Trump was completely exonerated by the report.

As disappointing and incredibly frustrating as that may be, a recent NBC/Wall Street Journal poll shows that support for Trump’s impeachment is growing. The country is still very much, at this point, divided, but the numbers have changed drastically in recent weeks.

NBC News reports:

‘Sixty percent of Americans say President Donald Trump has been dishonest in the Russia investigation, while only a third believe the report by special counsel Robert Mueller clears the president of wrongdoing.

‘Still, the public remains divided on impeaching Trump, with nearly half of respondents opposing holding impeachment hearings, and with the other half supporting either immediate impeachment proceedings or future congressional investigations to study the issue further.’

The poll says that those in support of impeachment or investigating Trump for impeachable offenses are now at 49 percent, while those opposed are at 47 percent. While this particular poll’s numbers are markedly similar to earlier polls, they are drastically different from other polls, such as one from The Washington Post, conducted immediately after the report’s release, in which a majority of poll participants were opposed to impeachment. That poll was released on April 26 and, at that point, 56 percent of Americans were opposed to impeachment.

‘Not surprisingly, the poll shows a significant divide by party on these questions, with Democrats overwhelmingly believing the president has been dishonest and guilty of wrongdoing, and Republicans overwhelmingly defending him.’

Further, the percentage of Americans who are coming to the realization that Trump has been far from honest in his statements regarding the investigation into his campaign and their alleged conspiracy to accept help from a hostile foreign government, as well as Trump’s own obstruction of justice in attempting to interfere in the investigation, is growing. A full 60 percent of American voters believe that Trump has lied about the Mueller investigation.

Only 11 percent of Republicans, apparently, read the report.

‘According to the poll, 60 percent of all respondents disagree with the statement that Trump has been honest and truthful when it comes to the investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 campaign, while just 37 percent agree…By party, 68 percent of Democrats and 44 percent of independents say that Mueller’s report doesn’t exonerate the president, versus just 11 percent of Republicans who agree.’
