The Russia scandal is still very much a thorn in President Donald Trump’s side, long after the conclusion of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation. This weekend, he suggested on Twitter that Democrats had run into a wall in their efforts to hold him accountable for his role in the scandal — but that’s just wishful thinking, because they most certainly haven’t. They’re still pursuing the full final report from Mueller’s probe along with its underlying evidence via subpoenas and other means for a reason.
He ranted on Twitter anyway:
‘So now the Radical Left Dems don’t talk about Collusion anymore, because the Mueller Report said there was No Collusion, they only want to talk about Obstruction, even though there was No Obstruction or No Crime – except for the crimes committed by the other side!’
To be clear — Democrats are very much still continuing to “talk about Collusion.” Trump is just making up an argument to the contrary because it suits his narrative that there’s nothing there to talk about. However, in reality, Mueller’s final report didn’t clear him of collusion in the first place, only of a criminally prosecutable conspiracy with the Russian government in their efforts to influence the 2016 elections. The report made the multiple connections clear between the Trump team and Russian operatives; the Trump team sought to use these connections for their advantage.
Remarkably enough, they’re still after foreign help this time around, with presidential lawyer Rudy Giuliani among those pressuring Ukrainian authorities to investigate former Vice President and Democratic presidential contender Joe Biden over supposed corruption.
On top of that, obstruction of justice doesn’t get to just not exist because he says so. The Mueller report outlines some ten instances in which he was suspected of seeking to curtail the procession of the judicial system in the Russia scandal, and in most, they concluded there was the relevant there intent making it obstruction of justice. They declined to bring charges in part because of standing Justice Department precedent against indicting a sitting president.
