President Donald Trump remains adamantly and explicitly unwilling to deal with the pressures of his position and accumulating from his continuously belligerent behavior. This Wednesday, he absolutely lost it after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) accused him of leading a “cover-up” via flatly refusing to cooperate with Congressional attempts at oversight.
He ranted for a few minutes and then stormed out of a previously scheduled meeting with Democratic leaders he ended up at only for a few minutes, angrily ranted at reporters in the Rose Garden, and then rushed to Twitter, where he dished unhinged vitriol. He rambled in part:
‘So sad that Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer will never be able to see or understand the great promise of our Country. They can continue the Witch Hunt which has already cost $40M and been a tremendous waste of time and energy for everyone in America, or get back to work. But they really want a do-over!.. In the meantime, my Administration is achieving things that have never been done before, including unleashing perhaps the Greatest Economy in our Country’s history. Democrat leadership is tearing the United States apart, but I will continue to set records for the American People.’
So now Democrats will “never… understand the great promise of our Country”? He’s suggesting that those on the other side aren’t just out of line but actively opposed to the very foundation of the United States which of course in his estimation is best represented by himself and his policies.
Unsurprisingly, he didn’t even try to offer any kind of evidence for his claim that his team has enacted what’s “perhaps” the greatest economy in the history of the United States. The Gross Domestic Product has repeatedly throughout U.S. history grown at significantly higher rates than any of those seen under Trump, and he’s currently pummeling the economy with his continued punitive tariff-driven trade wars. Cutting off trade with China with import tax hikes that they impose equivalents of targeting U.S. exports has a significant and growing negative effect on modern globally connected American business — it’s not that complicated, although Trump explicitly refuses to acknowledge this.
None of that even covers the president’s lies about the Russia investigation, which he terms the “witch hunt.” In his Wednesday Rose Garden rant at reporters, he mockingly railed:
‘When I went to Wisconsin and Michigan and Pennsylvania, I don’t say “oh let’s call Russia. Maybe they can – ” it’s a hoax!’
The problem is there are plenty of videos of Trump touting emails Russians stole from Democrats and even explicitly asserting that they should look for more while on the campaign trail.
