The country has long since stopped being surprised by President Donald Trump’s complete lack of self-awareness. On Memorial Day, however, the same man who wanted the Central Park Five executed even after DNA cleared them of a rape and murder, a man who called those who marched next to neo-Nazis “very fine people,” and a man who has never apologized for birtherism, went on a Twitter rant about one of his 2020 challengers being racist. The pot and the kettle both shook their heads in awe at the hypocrisy.

Recent polls show that Trump’s attempts to spread information in order to show his efforts to help black Americans, efforts that do not hold up to his claims, are not helping. A poll by Black PAC showed that:

‘90% of respondents definitely planning to vote say that economic conditions have not changed or have gotten worse. This sentiment rings most true for respondents in the South (92%); in “red” states (93%); with some college education (91%); who are unemployed (91%); who identify as women (94%); who are unemployed (91%); and who are disabled (96%).’

Even more telling, 91 percent of those polled have a negative view of Trump and 93 percent say the country is on the wrong track. Trump will insist that black voters love him because of the drop in black unemployment, but most of what he says about those employment rates is false and the wage gap between black and white Americans is rising.

As Andre M. Perry of The Brookings Institute told The Washington Post:

‘We should never celebrate the fact that black folks are just working. It’s like saying: ‘Look, you have a job. Why should you complain?’ And I think that’s what Trump is signaling. He’s saying to the black community, ‘Look what I’ve given you,’ and not necessarily saying, ‘Let’s look at the percentage of people in poverty, let’s look at the percentage of people rising to the middle class.’

‘Are black folks getting the kinds of jobs that are propelling them to the middle class? No, they are not,” Perry added. “You still see that gap in the unemployment rate, and you still see that gap in median income.’

Twitter was taken aback by Trump’s utter lack of self-awareness. Read some of their comments below:
