Donald Trump and the GOP have a new talking point when discussing Democrats, insisting that they’re simply blocking everything Trump does and passing no new legislation of their own. It seems they’re stuck in a time warp, because those were the Obama years and it was the GOP doing nothing.
In truth, Democrats in the House have passed more than 100 bills since the midterm elections and each sits in limbo, waiting to be brought in front of the Senate for a vote. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who grinned as he bragged that he is the “grim reaper” of House legislation even though House Democrats won their seats in democratic elections, has refused to bring them up for a vote. It’s nonstop obstruction from Republicans that gets nothing done, just as it was from 2010 to 2016 when a Democrat ran the White House and the GOP had a majority in both chambers of Congress.
There’s really not much indication that the USMCA is any different than NAFTA and many economists say that it’s simply NAFTA 2.0, a few modern upgrades to the original NAFTA agreement. Now that Trump withdrew his threats to impose tariffs on Mexico that would cost the American consumers more than it would harm Mexico, he’s desperate for a legislative win going into 2020. Whether the bill is any good is not his concern, he simply wants to say he got something other than tax cuts for the super rich passed in his first four years in office.
Twitter wasn’t buying Trump’s tantrum, either. Read some of their comments below:
