Trump is having a pretty bad birthday. Not only is #JohnMcCainDay trending on Twitter, but he sat for an explosive interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos in which he started calling the beloved anchor names.
Trump was immediately defensive as the conversation turned to obstruction and Robert Mueller. As Stephanopolous pushed against Trump as he began to lie about the questions he answered for Mueller’s team, Trump became increasingly agitated, and then the beast was awoken.
Sitting on the edge of his chair and looking like he stuffed himself into an expensive suit that could burst at the seams any moment, Trump said this:
“Wait a minute. I did answer questions. I answered them in writing.”
Stephanopoulos reminded Trump that he only answered the questions he wanted to answer, saying:
“Not on obstruction.”
Trump hit back quickly:
“George, you’re being a little wise guy, OK, which is, you know, typical for you.”
George sat stunned, soaking up this moment of television gold. Trump continued:
“Just so you understand. Very simple. It’s very simple. There was no crime. There was no collusion. The big thing’s collusion. Now, there’s no collusion. That means … it was a setup, in my opinion, and I think it’s going to come out.”
