Journalists around the world and on social media are fuming mad today. And now, the criticism has gotten even more sharp as lawmakers are chiming in.
Trump is currently overseas for the G20 Summit in Osaka, Japan, and he’s been stirring the pot heavily, ever since he landed on their foreign soil. Of the most shocking incidents, it appears Trump is attempting to one-up his appearance alongside Russian president Vladimir Putin in Helsinki in 2018.
Today is the anniversary of the shooting that took place in Annapolis, Maryland. Here in the United States, many are pausing to remember the victims of the senseless act, carried out by a real POS named Jarrod Ramos. Ramos carried out the act because of past spat with the paper, as well as a mission to stop the truth from being told. And, let’s not get it twisted, Donald Trump’s rhetoric has done nothing to ease the whackos from wanting to raise their guns up at people.
From The Telegraph:
‘The mass shooting – one of the deadliest attacks on journalists in U.S. history -immediately became a symbol of threats against the First Amendment and the dedication of journalists around the world in an era when President Donald Trump and others have branded the media as the “enemy of the people.”‘
The sharpest of today’s criticism, coming out of Maryland, lawmakers there are lambasting Trump for his comments to Vladimir Putin. There are caught on camera discussing getting rid of journalists. Trump just doesn’t learn.
Senators Chris Van Hollen, Ben Cardin and David Trone all lost their minds once they caught winds of Trump’s disrespect and ignorance abroad, especially while Americans here are still dealing with an astronomical pile-up of bodies, due to gun violence on this president’s watch. Also because of the Capital Gazette shooting that took place one year ago today.
According to Bloomberg reporter Jennifer Jacobs who is traveling abroad along side the president, Trump told people in the room where he and Putin were to “get rid of them,” referring to the press pool. In addition, Jacobs reports he said at some point:
‘Fake news is a great term, isn’t it? You don’t have this problem in Russia, but we do.’
Putin eventually chimed in stating:
‘We also have. It’s the same.’
Here is the clip of the moment:
“Despicable” said Van Hollen of the exchange.
Mr. President, Maryland is mourning the loss of five journalists who were murdered at the Capital Gazette shooting one year ago today. Instead of taking action to combat the gun violence epidemic in America, you’re joking with Putin about getting rid of journalists? Despicable. https://t.co/5cCKSrkjEv

“A disgrace” said David Trone:
This is a disgrace. A year ago we lost five people in the Capital Gazette shooting in Annapolis.
Today should be about commemorating the lives we've lost and fighting for a future with no gun violence. We must do better. https://t.co/jWQJWPKoL7

On the one-year anniversary of the deadliest newsroom shooting in American history, this is totally unacceptable. It would be on any day, but today it is especially reprehensible. @CapGazette https://t.co/Ad9sztj8W4

It is not comforting at all to know that while people here are hurting, mourning and holding memorials for those we’ve lost, Trump doesn’t care. Not only does he not care, he doesn’t learn. It is also sad that this story you’re reading now is normalized. Anything goes with Donald Trump. The world is, apparently, his stage.
