Some of Donald Trump’s displays of “patriotism” have been beyond bizarre, such as tendency to physically embrace the U.S. flag in front of crowds to music. Traditionally, the Fourth of July celebration at the National Mall does not include the president since partisanship is ideally kept separate from the event. So of course, Trump is inserting himself in a dictatorial display of military strength and partisan speeches.

After two years of demanding a parade of the military along with its bombs and weapons, he’s finally settled on turning the Fourth of July celebration into what dictators like North Korea’s Kim Jong Un hold to display their killing capabilities to the world. While protests of Trump’s appearance at the event were already planned, more and more money is being spent to expand the spectacle.
One CBS affiliate in Alabam quotes Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt as saying:
‘This is going to be a fantastic Fourth of July with increased access across the National Mall for the public to enjoy music, flyovers, a spectacular fireworks display, and an address by our Commander-in-Chief. We received an extraordinary donation for a phenomenal fireworks display, and our colleagues from the Department of Defense will be providing a one-of-a-kind music and air power experience including a flight demonstration from the Blue Angels.’

Instead of spending their time either doing the job they signed up to do or spending it at home with their families, military personnel will be appearing at the event. More than $750,000 just in fireworks expenditures have already been reported while migrant children are denied soap and toothbrushes in detention centers because private facilities refuse to spend any of their profits to keep children safe and healthy.
‘Salute to America will honor each of the nation’s five service branches with music, military demonstrations, multiple flyovers including a flight demonstration by the Blue Angels and much more. Participants include the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, the U.S. Army Band (“Pershing’s Own”), the Armed Forces Chorus, the United States Marine Corps Silent Drill Team, and many others.
‘This year’s fireworks will run approximately 35 minutes thanks to a donation from Phantom Fireworks and Fireworks by Grucci to light up the night sky and celebrate America. The donation to the National Park Service is valued at $750,000.’

Appearing at the Lincoln Memorial at 6:30 PM EST, Trump will defy every 4th of July tradition by making his presence known, giving a speech while military planes soar over his head and patriotic music plays in the background. It truly is a spectacle worthy of the most image-conscious and vain president in history.
