Considering how much the “I don’t watch television” president watches television and complains about the media coverage he gets, it’s mind-boggling to realize that he really doesn’t get why he’s criticized or why he so invites the criticism and distrust of the American people.

For instance, a president so criticized for cozying up with murderous dictators might not want to promote his handshakes and giggles with them, and especially not while trading jokes about the media with a president who orders the murders of journalists who dare criticize him and expose his corruption. Yet, Trump’s video diary of his most recent trip to Japan to attend the G20 Summit featured shots of him smiling and laughing with Russian President Vladimir Putin, where they giggled together as they joked about Russia’s interference in the U.S. election.
Because that interference helps Trump, he just doesn’t care. Â The will of the American people is secondary to Trump getting what will personally benefit him, as he’s proven time and time again during his presidency.
Trump still seems full of wonder that people actually include him and allow him into important meetings where real, impactful decisions are made. In all honesty, the rest of the world is perplexed by it, too. The president who conducts his foreign policy by 280-character public tweets will leave a long-lasting stain on the country for years to come, and knowing that the world is witnessing this massive failure of a U.S. election is nothing but embarassing.
