Donald Trump, for once, has stayed on script for his Fourth of July speech, reciting stories from each war throughout history, none of which Trump ever fought in because he has bone spurs.

Trump promoted a vision of a united America, convienantly leaving out the part where he’s called Democrats evil and accused them of wanting to destroy America. The most divisive president in history. He also once again touted his celebration as a salute to the American military, having spent millions of dollars on a parade while thousands of homeless vets wait on the streets for help.
‘Today, we come together as ONE NATION with this very special Salute to America. We celebrate our history, our people, and the heroes who proudly defend our flag—the brave men and women of the United States Military!’
Well, rain finally did arrive for Trump July 4th Lincoln Mall speech. Fitting for such a weak President. Even Lincoln was smiling. pic.twitter.com/7z7q5AQ4Q5

Trump also promoted the idea of a shared heritage, ignoring the fact that this “shared heritage” comes from a diverse mix of nationalities that immigrants brought to this country. As he smiled and stood protected from the rain while the military marched in a storm, migrants sit in detention centers with and without their children, who are not afforded even soap and toothpaste.
‘As we gather this evening in the joy of freedom, we remember that we ALL share a truly extraordinary heritage. Together, we are part of the greatest story ever told – the story of AMERICA.
U.S. Capitol Police had to evacuate the west front of the Capitol Building due to lightning strikes near the National Mall ahead of President Trump's "Salute to America" Independence Day speech.

His speech about the American spirit at least rang true. Protest and resistance is a large part of American history and what has made the country what it is today, and protests rang out from outside the mall with a large crowd that rivaled the one inside.
‘That same American Spirit that emboldened our founders has kept us strong throughout our history. To this day, that spirit runs through the veins of every American patriot. It lives on in each and every one of YOU.’
