Donald Trump’s attack on the four new Democratic members of the House backfired on him badly. He was trying to divide the country, but his vicious attack on women half his age and half his weight did the opposite — it drew Americans closer together. The women stood up against him, four strong voices that reminded us of what patriotism is all about.
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) announced today that it had condemned Trump’s racist tweets about the four new Democratic leaders. POTUS told them to “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came.” The president was on a roll, spinning as he went. He said these Democrats hated Israel and were anti-Semitic.
The man who sits in the Oval Office tweeted:
‘So sad to see the Democrats sticking up for people who speak so badly of our Country and who, in addition, hate Israel with a true and unbridled passion. Whenever confronted, they call their adversaries, including Nancy Pelosi, “RACIST.” Their disgusting language…..’
‘As Jews, we are all too familiar with this kind of divisive prejudice. While ADL has publicly disagreed with these congresswomen on some issues, the president is echoing the racist talking points of white nationalists and cynically using the Jewish people and the state of Israel as a shield to double down on his remarks.
Greenblatt continued recommending Donald Trump “lead by example…stop smearing:”
Politicizing the widespread, bipartisan support for Israel and throwing around accusations of anti-Semitism is damaging to the security of Israel and the Jewish community. He should lead by example, stop politicizing these issues and stop smearing members of Congress.’
ADL describes itself as “the world’s leading anti-hate organization.” It was formed to protect the Jewish people against anti-Semitism and bigotry. It seeks “justice and fair treatment for all.”
It continues to “fight all forms of hate.” It is a global leader in the fight to expose:
‘(E)xtremism, delivering anti-bias education, and fighting hate online, ADL is the first call when acts of anti-Semitism occur. ADL’s ultimate goal is a world in which no group or individual suffers from bias, discrimination or hate.’
