President Donald Trump does not seem well-equipped to deal with reality, which is not something you’d want to say about the president of the United States — but here we are. This Friday morning, he took to Twitter to insist that there’s no way that a Fox poll is accurate that measures him with less support than possible general election challenger and former Vice President Joe Biden. He’s just actively rejecting reality at this point because it doesn’t suit his purposes. He’s off in a land of conspiratorial lunacy.
He ranted:
‘@FoxNews is at it again. So different from what they used to be during the 2016 Primaries, & before – Proud Warriors! Now new Fox Polls, which have always been terrible to me (they had me losing BIG to Crooked Hillary), have me down to Sleepy Joe. Even considering the fact that I have gone through a three year vicious Witch Hunt, perpetrated by the Lamestream Media in Collusion with Crooked and the Democrat Party, there can be NO WAY, with the greatest Economy in U.S. history, that I can be losing to the Sleepy One. KEEP AMERICA GREAT!’
“The lamestream media”?? Are you kidding?? Here we again see the president of the United States responding to challenges by only barely metaphorically crossing his arms and pouting in a corner while occasionally shouting insults like he’s some misbehaving gradeschooler. Actually, that’s probably insulting to young people — most of them would no doubt be well aware of how to avoid this kind of behavior on the world stage were they to make it to the White House.
Reality isn’t a conspiracy just because Donald Trump didn’t like the way it turned out. In reality — the one where these polls the president is so up in arms about were taken according to duly established statistical norms — he’s been consistently behind leading Democratic presidential contenders like Biden by significant amounts. RealClearPolitics estimates at present that he’s an average of 8.5 percent behind Biden in polls pitting them against each other. These delusional tweets in response, troublingly enough, could be a foreshadowing of Trump’s response should he lose in the 2020 election. He might just reject reality.
This Friday morning, Trump also ranted about the economy, acting like he knows what he’s talking about. Whether he does is definitely in question.
