Donald Trump has been picking fights with people of color in an attempt to stir the coals of racism among members of his base. He knows that he needs many more hate-filled racist people to vote for him in the 2020 presidential election. Yet, POTUS has also been unabashedly exposing himself as the true racist he is.
The president attacked the city of Baltimore, Maryland and its revered Representative Elijah Cummings. He said the city was “disgusting” and “rodent-infested.” Then, Trump went after Reverend Al Sharpton using these twitter words: a “troublemaker” and a “con man” “who hates whites.”
Founder of the nonprofit organization National Action Network Reverend Al Sharpton held a news conference captured on YouTube for The USA Today newspaper in Charm City. He had already planned to speak at the previously scheduled National Action Network conference where he said:
‘He attacks everybody, I know Donald Trump he’s not mature enough to take criticism … he’s like a child. But he has a particular venom for blacks and people of color. He attacks Nancy Pelosi, he attacks Chuck Schumer, he attacks other whites, but he never said that their districts or their states are places that no human beings want to live.’
Former Republican National Committee Chair Michael Steele also talked about the language that the president has been using:”
‘Little did I know that Mr. Trump was going to, on the eve of this, attack the congressman from this city — and not only the congressman but the people of this city — in the most bigoted and racist way.’
The Reverend said that he and Trump have gone back and forth for a quarter of a century. It began when then real-estate mogul took out a full-page ad to condemn teen boys as young as 14 with the rape of a Central Park jogger. He called for their death penalty. Even after DNA clear the boys, Trump still attacked them.
Sharpton also parried with Trump over the conspiracy theory of birtherism, the lie that President Barack Obama could not be a rightful president, because he was born in Kenya. That was not true. The president was born in Hawaii to a former Kansan mother and a Kenyan father.
Reverend Sharpton agreed that he himself was a “troublemaker:”
‘Call me a troublemaker. Yes, I make trouble for bigots, As far as me being a con man, if he really thought I was a con man he’d be nominating me for his Cabinet.’
Then, the Reverend stood up for Representative Elijah Cummings (D-MD):
‘Elijah Cummings is a respected and well-regarded member of Congress. And for him to be angry at Mr. Cummings because Mr. Cummings has the moral standard to question how migrant children are being treated at the border is an abomination to me.’
Trump has also been going after four freshman Democratic congresswomen of color: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Ilhan Omar (D-MN),  Ayanna Pressley (MA), and Rashida Tlaib (MI). He has tweeted that they should “go back (to the) totally broken and crime-infested places from which they came.”
