President Donald Trump is somehow hoping that he’s re-elected not just while lambasting marginalized communities at every turn and fumbling basic tenets of the economy and national security, but also while not even sticking around the White House for consistent full seven day work weeks. He is again at a golf course branded with his own name this weekend — this time, it’s the property in Bedminster, New Jersey, which he has consistently used before including perhaps most prominently during the presidential transition period. According to MSNBC’s Kyle Griffin, this Saturday is Trump’s 214th day at a Trump golf club as president, and it’s his 282nd day overall at a Trump-branded property since assuming his present position.

That means that for almost one-third of his presidency, he has been at least part of the day at a property with his own name. For almost one-fourth of his time in office so far, those days have been spent on a golf course, including besides the Bedminister property, the Trump golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, which is by his Mar-a-Lago resort there, where he has also spent a lot of time.

With these wide-ranging swaths of time off, he has incurred massive bills for American taxpayers, at least some of which has gone into his own businesses since that’s what he’s patronizing as president of the United States. According to one recent analysis, back in May Trump had already incurred costs of some $102 million and counting with his golf trips, which is just $12.7 million shy of all the travel costs that the Obamas incurred for the entire time that Barack was in office as president. Remember — Obama was in office for eight years, and Trump has been in for only about two and a half.

Besides the monetary issues, the incessant golfing also highlights the uniquely “Trump-ian” approach that the president has taken to his time in office. A leak of schedules of his from earlier this year revealed the bloated portion devoted to unstructured “executive time,” which comprised around 60 percent of his accounted for time during late 2018 and early 2019. How are we supposed to trust someone to competently lead the United States if they’re devoting hours daily to watching television and tweeting about it?
