It appears that Donald Trump has been sending El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio caravans of semi-trucks full of prayers. The advantages of sending prayers are that they are cheap, they sound great, and they take no action on the part of the government. Prayers have been among the top Republican responses to gun control.
The president tweeted out a handful of “God Blesses” more than 12 hours after the last machine gunfire ripped through the Dayton night:
‘God bless the people of El Paso, Texas. God bless the people of Dayton, Ohio.’
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) released a statement that reached into the hearts of Americans after the dual mass shootings. She ended with #enoughisenough.
That takes people to The Action Network, and while the march is dated over a year ago, the message is still very relevant:
‘Women’s March Youth EMPOWER is calling for students, teachers, school administrators, parents and allies to take part in a#NationalSchoolWalkout for 17 minutes at 10am across every time zone on March 14, 2018 to protest Congress’ inaction to do more than tweet thoughts and prayers in response to the gun violence plaguing our schools and neighborhoods. We need action. Students and allies are organizing the national school walkout to demand Congress pass legislation to keep us safe from gun violence at our schools, on our streets and in our homes and places of worship.’
The call to action said that students and staff “have the right to teach and learn” where they are “free from worry of being gunned down:”
‘Students and staff have the right to teach and learn in an environment free from the worry of being gunned down in their classrooms or on their way home from school. Parents have the right to send their kids to school in the mornings and see them home alive at the end of the day.’
