Donald Trump stands up before thousands of his supporters when he has his 2020 campaign rallies. If people were expecting a show, they would not be disappointed. Unfortunately, the show takes people down a dark path.
Many of the Republican senators and representatives have been afraid of this president. They know that if they say anything that displeases him, POTUS will hit his Twitter account and attack him/her nonstop. Not only that, the GOP will find a far more conservative candidate to run against him in the next primary.
Yet, the courageous few step up and speak truth to power. The Nebraska state senator tweeted that “the Republican Party is enabling white supremacy:”
‘The Republican Party is enabling white supremacy in our country. As a lifelong Republican, it pains me to say this, but it’s the truth. I of course am not suggesting that all Republicans are white supremacists nor am I saying that the average Republican is even racist.’
McCollister continued, noting that the party had been “complicit to obvious racist and immoral activity:”
‘What I am saying though is that the Republican Party is COMPLICIT to obvious racist and immoral activity inside our party.’
He reminded other politicians how history would look upon them:
‘We have Republican senators and representatives who look the other way and say nothing for fear that it will negatively affect their elections. No more. When the history books are written, I refuse to be someone who said nothing.’
Then, the state senator took his biggest risk. He called out Donald Trump, because the president “stokes racist fears” and he “lies more than he tells the truth:”
‘We have a Republican president who continually stokes racist fears in his base. He calls certain countries “sh*tholes,” tells women of color to “go back” to where they came from and lies more than he tells the truth.’
Twitter world lit up. Here are some of our favorite responses below. See what you think:
