Even as president of the United States of America, with pressing domestic and global issues to attend to, Donald Trump continues to prove obsessed with crowd sizes and Twitter trending topics. As the weekend got underway, he took to Twitter to try and convince observers that really, his re-election campaign is going great, and — like he’d asserted previously — he’d supposedly garnered utterly fantastic rally crowd sizes. To be clear, the arena capacity for his most recent rally was just about 11,000, which is on the lower side in terms of arenas. Trump would still like us to believe that it’s a pressing matter of national importance that shows how truly awesomely great he is — or something. Who’s running the country while he devolves into sputtering egomania like this?
At one point late Friday, Trump railed:
‘Biggest crowd EVER, according to Arena people. Thousands outside trying to get in. Place was packed! Radical Left Dems & their Partner, LameStream Media, saying Arena empty. Check out pictures. Fake News. The Enemy of the People!’
To be clear — as part of the push that culminated in a recent spot among Twitter’s trending topics with the hashtag “#EmptySeatMAGATour,” Trump opponents did have footage with actual empty seats visible as the president spoke. While it is true that there was a large crowd there for the New Hampshire rally, his assertion that he’s the only one with the real news or whatever in this situation is false. As exemplified by the fact that he’s going on about this in the first place, he simply consistently adamantly refuses to accept anything less than full egomania.
Is this his re-election platform? “I get the biggest crowd sizes, so you should vote for me”? How’s that going to help the people in middle America who he’s jerking around with his punitive import taxes? What about the marginalized communities he’s pushing further and further into the shadows with his hateful, violent rhetoric?
Besides the above, Trump went on some more this Friday night and Saturday about his supposedly really great, truly awesome crowds. He tweeted a couple of times about people left outside the New Hampshire rally in the overflow viewing, and he shared a photo of some Trump flags on boats in Maryland.
Ah yes, that infallible mark of greatness — a dozen flags on some random boats somewhere.
