On a basic level, the leadership styles of Barack Obama and Donald Trump likely couldn’t be much more different. Incumbent President Trump has occupied his time in office with going after marginalized communities at nearly every opportunity, while his immediate predecessor Obama has occupied himself inside and outside of office with bolstering the positions of those otherwise disenfranchised — and now, offering another installment of his traditional yearly summer playlist.
It’s a wonder when something as simple as a summer playlist can serve as a distinguishing factor between presidents — but try and imagine Trump rolling out some playlist of his own favorite music. Does he even listen to much music? That would require him to get on a certain level of the people… which isn’t exactly the gold-favoring sleazy businessman’s strong suit. Alongside a graphic with 50 tracks, Obama wrote on social media this past Friday:
‘With summer winding down, here’s a sampling of what Michelle and I have been listening to — some new, some old, some fast, some slow. Hope you enjoy.’

While Obama was doing that, Trump was on Twitter this past Friday defending his reference to himself as the “chosen one,” which he’d offered during a discussion of taking on unfair Chinese trade policies. Someone had to do it, he insisted, and glancing towards the sky, he insisted that he was the “chosen one” for the task. He claimed in his defense that he’d been “smiling” when he said it, so therefore he was clearly joking around. He wasn’t smiling; in fact, he was rather energetically agitated. It was all on video.
Besides his summer playlist, a production company that Obama founded and leads alongside his wife Michelle recently debuted their first film — a documentary called American Factory, which is now available on Netflix. It’s been well-received by critics.
