Donald Trump stood up on a stage in Biarritz, France at the Group-7 Summit and committed a serious breach of manners by condemning President Barack Obama. Not only that, POTUS defended the Russian President Vladimir Putin while badmouthing a U.S. president on the world stage. There were consequences.
Trump said it was Obama’s fault that Russia was no longer in the G-8, which made it the group of seven members. The president said that Putin “outsmarted” 44. Then, the sitting U.S. president alleged that Obama was embarrassed when Russia invaded Ukraine, according to The Washington Times:
‘President Obama was not happy that this happened because it was embarrassing to him, right? It was very embarrassing to him, and he wanted Russia to be out of what was called the G-8. And that was his determination. He was outsmarted by Putin. He was outsmarted.’
The Democratic leadership warned POTUS in its letter to knock off trying to get the G-7 allies to let Putin back into the group. The Russian president has attacked the United State of America’s elections, and he is continuing to attack. Putin also maintained attacks in the U.K., Syria, and Ukraine elections.
The reason the G-7 ejected Putin from the group was that he invaded Ukraine and annexed Crimea in 2014, which is an area comparable in size to the state of Massachusetts.
Senator Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY), and Senators Mark Warner (D-VA), Jack Reed (D-RI), and Robert Menendez (D-NJ) sent a letter to Donald Trump, according to POLITICO. It read:
‘If President Putin’s regime is willing to directly and flagrantly violate these international agreements and disregard the sovereignty of its neighbors, the Russian government should not be trusted with a leadership position on the world stage.’
In addition, these senators said this about Russia, that it did not have:
‘…the democratic institutions nor the economic capacity (be re-enter the G-7).’
