Sometimes “no” means “yes” when it comes to politics. The world has people joining strict lines of blue or red but speaking in a haze of words that leaves us wondering “what?” Here is just the latest great example of politics’ world of moving shadows and murkiness.
Former South Carolina governor and United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley just released this disclaimer about “false rumors:”
‘Enough of the false rumors. Vice President Pence has been a dear friend of mine for years. He has been a loyal and trustworthy VP to the President. He has my complete support.’
Haley did not say “no way, absolutely not” when rumors about Trump chucking Pence and bringing in the rising Republican star. Both Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner have strongly back Haley.
In the White House, a senior official called the situation, according to Axios:
‘Some of us look at it as too little, too late. Why didn’t she come out immediately waving her Trump-Pence 2020 flag the moment the rumors started circulating and the [Wall Street Journal] op-ed was published?’
The former governor and former UN ambassador will be a special guest at a Trump-Pence and RNC fundraiser in October. She will be on stage with Donald Trump Jr., Kimberly Guilfoyle, and Colorado Sen. Cory Gardner at the Fall Retreat for the Trump Victory Committee
This meant that Haley has officially linked herself to the Trump re-election campaign. Axios distilled former New York City Council President Andrew Stein’s op-ed comments to:
‘I mean no disrespect for Mr. Pence, who’s loyally served the president and the nation. But he’s given Mr. Trump all the help he can. He inspired his fellow evangelical Christians to take a chance in 2016. But in 2020 they’ll already be repelled by the Democrats’ embrace of infanticide. Mr. Trump’s greater obstacle to re-election comes from politically moderate suburban women, many of whom see him as divisive.’
