President Donald Trump continues to passionately take up almost any opportunity to tear into his political opponents, whether or not his complaints are rooted in fact. This Friday morning, he took to Twitter to again let loose over former FBI Director James Comey, who was the main subject of a report released in recent days by the inspector general’s office overseeing the Department of Justice. That report faulted Comey for his handling of memos chronicling conversations with the president, insisting that he broke department policy by keeping them personally — but there was no evidence of willful leak of classified information to the media, which pokes a huge hole in any Trump-ian plans for a criminal case.
The president lied and claimed otherwise. He railed:
‘The disastrous IG Report on James Comey shows, in the strongest of terms, how unfairly I, and tens of millions of great people who support me, were treated. Our rights and liberties were illegally stripped away by this dishonest fool. We should be given our stolen time back? The fact that James Comey was not prosecuted for the absolutely horrible things he did just shows how fair and reasonable Attorney General Bill Barr is. So many people and experts that I have watched and read would have taken an entirely different course. Comey got Lucky!’
Trump’s idea is that his time in office be extended to “make up” for the Russia investigation that Comey helped lead for a time — and we’re supposed to take that seriously, apparently, and not with a desperate eye towards the 2020 elections thanks to the outlandish behavior. He’s made this “joke” before, mocking the unease that’s rocked liberals by his consistent assertions that he should have more time in office. Once, he even said the 2020 election should just be called off now because of how certain his victory supposedly is. To call Trump jumping from Comey breaking department policy to this wide-ranging plan of belligerence utterly outlandish would be an understatement.
This Friday, Trump also tweeted a complaint that General Motors has supposedly shipped too many jobs overseas. It’s not like he’s helping them bring any back with his incessant import taxes making it harder and harder to do business in the United States.
