The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting a different outcome. The Democrats have been threatening to subpoena different members of the White House and documents, even doing so, but there will not be a different outcome. What is going on?
There has been no doubt that the president has pressured the new president of Ukraine to investigate former vice president Joe Biden and his son Hunter. After all, Trump pressed him eight times, according to The Washington Post.
Biden’s son sat on the board of a Ukrainian energy company while his father was in office. The ethics committee cleared that decision.
Three committees have threatened to subpoena Secretary of State Mike Pompeo should he not produce information regarding Trump and his personal attorney Rudy Giuliani’s actions in the Ukraine.
The committees sent letters requesting the documents, two weeks later they asked again. Now, they have threatened subpoenas. The situation has begun to feel like a scene out of Ground Hog Day.
If the Democrats cannot actually do their oversight on the issue of Trump interfering in the 2020 presidential election and stifling a whistleblower’s serious complaint, then when will they?
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been apparently trying to protect the newly-acquired conservative seats and likely never considered impeaching the president.
However, what if the public realizes that Republicans and Democrats have done nothing and vote against all both parties? That is the risk Pelosi is currently taking. If she would only allow impeachment investigations to begin, House Intelligence Committee chair Adam Schiff (D-CA) would have the authority to get the information he needs.
As it stands, the Democrats issue letters and more letters. The send out subpoena after subpoena, and the issue just gets buried in court. Unless the people can actually see something happening, that may be worse than the hint of impeachment.
According to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), he pressured the Trump campaign to release the $250 million in military aid the president had been withholding from Ukraine. Russia invaded the country, and without that aid, the consequences would have been quite deadly.
The White House also halted a whistleblower’s complaint, one that he risked his career over. That complaint was gainst Trump. Those involved followed the correct process, but then they ran into the acting director of National Intelligence. He went to Attorney General William Barr, who killed it.
McConnell claimed he contacted the Defense Secretary and the Secretary of State to get the funds released. Congress had given approval for the $250 million.
Senate Democrats have been sending McConnell, aka the Grim Reaper, letters demanding he investigate the whistleblower’s complaint. They have even begun to call Republicans names “see no evil hear no evil.”
Thus far, the Democrats’ actions have been about as effective as namecalling.
