Donald Trump is a great head of state in his own eyes. As the leader of the free world, he has been acting as if he was exempt from any punishment or limitation — even if it causes serious consequences. This is what he said.
During a meeting with reporters prior to meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, Trump said that the prize was “rigged against him.” He might have been joking, but probably not, according to POLITICO:
‘I would get a Nobel prize for a lot of things, if they give it out fairly, which they don’t.’
It seems that our great leader does not have the capacity for embarrassment, either. Trump asked Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to nominate him for the Nobel Peace Prize last fall, and Abe did. He nominated POTUS for easing tension with North Korea.
Abe even gave Trump “the most beautiful copy” of the prime minister’s nomination letter to our commander-in-chief said. It was five pages long. POTUS commented it was “very generous” of Abe.
POTUS began talking up a Peace Prize again after he had been talking about Kashmir, which is located between India and Pakistan. Right now, India has taken over control of the smaller area.
After Trump claimed he was “an extremely good arbitrator,” one of the foreign journalists said that the U.S. leader should broker a peace deal among the involved parties. Then, the reporter went a step further. He said if Trump was successful, he would “very likely and definitely” be given the Nobel Peace Prize.
It looked as if the sitting president has not been able to get over the idea that President Barack Obama received the prize, but he had not. His attitude explained how he wrapped his head around the discrepancy between the two leaders, that Obama was indeed better than him.
Trump said, according to POLITICO:
‘They gave one to Obama immediately upon his ascent to the presidency and he had no idea why he got it. You know what? That was the only thing I agreed with him on.’
The Nobel Committee awarded Obama the rare prize only nine months after he took office in 2009. The committee awarded it for:
‘…extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy.’
This came as something of a surprise after such a short time. Plus, the Middle East wars were still in full force at the time.
Once, during a Trump Cabinet meeting, a reporter asked the president whether he believed hs deserved the prize. He replied:
‘Everyone thinks so, but I would never say it.’
Well, maybe not everyone thinks so. One problem was that North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un has not given up his nuclear weapons and missile testing. Trump commented that he might visit again right before the 2020 presidential election.
Trump has called himself a great negotiator. Yet thus far, there was not peace between Israel and Pakistan. He said that accomplishment would be the “deal of the century.” Still, leaving the Iranian 2015 nuclear pact has not proven to be a good decision.
With almost no notice, the president called off Taliban talks at Camp David to end the Afghanistan War. His timing was especially bad given that it was mere days from the 9/11 anniversary.
The Nobel prize will be given to six recipients in October.
