President Donald Trump is continuing his desperate campaign to get help from wherever he can for his re-election bid. To that end, this Thursday outside the White House, he called on China to investigate the Bidens’ family business activity there, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) abruptly denounced the act as another example of Trump’s dangerously out of control behavior. The China call echoes all the way back to the time during the 2016 campaign season when Trump publicly asked Russia to find emails lost from Hillary Clinton’s email server — Trump’s still at it, after all of the mess between then and now.
After Trump’s South Lawn pronouncement, Pelosi posted on Twitter:
‘Once again, @realDonaldTrump has called on a foreign country to interfere in our elections – just the latest example of him putting his personal political gain ahead of defending the integrity of our elections.’
More recently than the public call for Russia to dig up Hillary’s emails during the 2016 race, Trump was caught trying to get Ukraine to dig up dirt on the Bidens on the basis of baseless accusations of corruption. At this point, a former Ukrainian president and top prosecutor have come out and explicitly said there’s nothing to the allegations of Biden corruption, but Trump and his cronies are still at it.
In an interview with Pelosi that ABC News released earlier in the day, the House Speaker notes that she thinks Trump is operating on a different wavelength or something from, well, reality. It’s not that there’s a question of what he’s doing — much of it is on camera! It’s that Trump refuses to acknowledge the possibility of wrongdoing and prefers frantic tweets.
Discussing a recent phone conversation she had with the president, Pelosi shared:
‘I saw the surprise in his voice that he didn’t understand that I thought what he did was wrong, that he was undermining his national security, that he was undermining our Constitution by his actions, and that he was undermining the integrity of our elections. He just didn’t see it.’
There’s no particular indication that Trump will suddenly see the issue with his behavior any time soon.
