Trump Is Desperately Tweeting To Distract From His Crimes

The current president of the United States spends an inordinate amount of time on Twitter ranting and raving, only barely metaphorically flailing his arms and hoping that we take his word for it that really, he’s just a top of the line, swell guy. To that end, early this Saturday, he got on the platform to share video clips from Fox News that he seems to think bolster his defense against an ongoing House Democratic impeachment inquiry centered on his attempt to get Ukraine to produce dirt on the Bidens that could be useful for the Trump campaign. The video clips were against House Intel Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and in favor of Republicans’ claim that there was no quid pro quo between Trump and the Ukrainians — although Trump did explicitly ask for a “favor.”

Still, Trump proudly tweeted the clips, captioning the Schiff one:

“Schiff is a FRAUD!” @dbongino’

The clip about with the no quid pro quo claim features revealed texts from current U.S. Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland, who assumed his present position after delivering major contributions to Trump totaling some $1 million. Discussing Trump’s abrupt decision to suspend aid to Ukraine in conjunction with his push for Biden dirt, Sondland replied to top U.S. diplomat in Ukraine Bill Taylor denouncing withholding aid to pressure for benefits for a political campaign by insisting that’s not what really was happening — and that conversations should continue offline.

As MSNBC host Chris Hayes put it, summarizing the gist of Sondland’s messages:

‘I’m still laughing at the sheer guilty desperation of Sondland’s texts. Basically, I want to be very clear we are not doing crimes here. Call me to discuss further.’

Former U.S. Special Envoy for Ukraine Kurt Volker has already testified to Congress, and considering the scope of the ongoing House Democratic investigations, he likely will not be the last figure involved in the mess to face the music.
