Pelosi Trolls Trump With Multi-Tweet Impeachment Take-Down

President Donald Trump has only grown increasingly desperate while in office. This week, when accepting the Liberty and Justice for All Award from the Lyndon B. Johnson Foundation, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) bluntly denounced some of Trump’s most brazen attempted power grabs. Selections from her remarks went up on her official Twitter account, where all could see what’s at stake in the ongoing struggle against the president’s belligerence. Trump is threatening the effective functioning of American government itself, Pelosi insisted.

She shared:

‘The current occupant of the White House says, ‘Article Two says I can do whatever I want.’ That just isn’t so. Our Founders did not want a monarchy — that is why they wrote the Constitution… There is a risk to our Republic if we do not maintain what our Founders put forward: three coequal branches of government, separation of powers, with a check & balance on each other.’

These statements should not be partisan! Yet, they are. Trump has indeed insisted that Article II of the Constitution’s provisions for the presidency grant him broad, perhaps even unlimited power to do things like abruptly shuffle the personnel in charge of important investigations like the Russia probe and essentially anything else he wants.

In a particularly belligerent rant delivered to a national summit of the conservative advocacy organization Turning Point USA, Trump insisted:

‘Then I have an Article II, which gives me the right to do whatever I want as president. But I don’t even talk about that.’

How did Congressional Republicans not abandon Trump right then and there? He gave this speech in July, months before the current impeachment inquiry got underway. How is it still so difficult for GOP leaders to figure out if they’re going to stick by the president’s belligerence or not? How could that belligerence even get more brazen beyond Trump insisting he can do “whatever” he wants?

The speech in which Trump insisted he can do whatever he wants happened just days before Trump’s infamous phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in which he pressured the fellow world leader to produce dirt on the Bidens, a call Trump says was “perfect.”
