Leave it to the Trumps to turn something as basic as Halloween into a spectacle. Donald Trump Jr. and his girlfriend former Fox host Kimberly Guilfoyle got dressed up for the holiday as a “witch hunt.” Guilfoyle wore a cliched witch look complete with a pointy black hat, and Trump Jr. put on full camouflage and toted a bow around. Just this week, House Democrats passed a formal impeachment inquiry approval resolution including procedures for developments like public hearings — and this horror show seems to among be the best that the Trumps can come up with in response.
In an Instagram caption, Trump Jr. shared his reasoning for the, uh, “unique” couple’s costume and indicated just how far he’s gone off into the fantasy that his family is some kind of martyr for American greatness. In reality, they’re demonstrably sleazy cons facing the consequences for their actions now that they’re in the spotlight of the presidency!
Either way, Trump Jr. melodramatically wrote:
‘Witch Hunt!!! Happy Halloween folks! With all the bullshit the Democrats are throwing out there we just couldn’t resist.’
In her own post of the photos, Guilfoyle wrote on Instagram:
‘#BRB, witch hunting’
As has been explored elsewhere, there remain so many issues with the Trumps’ incessant characterization of investigations into their behavior as “witch hunts” that it can be hard to know where to start. Quite simply, where historical, actual witch hunts that have happened in the United States were based on hearsay and rumors, investigations into the Trump family are founded on clearly delineated, basic evidence.
Trump Jr. has actually used Halloween as a political spectacle before. In 2017, he tweeted a photo of a bucket of candy that his daughter had gotten and quipped that he’d take half of it and give it to some kid who’d sat at home so his daughter could learn about socialism. The problem is that’s a rudimentary at best understanding of not just socialism but basic reality in general. Besides the fact that the candy was literally a handout in the first place, since when was it a bad thing to share? In what universe does Trump Jr. live where that’s not already expected on levels all the way up to taxes??
