Lindsey Graham Looks Worse Than Usual During Live TV Appearance

Republicans allied to President Donald Trump like Senate Judiciary Committee Lindsay Graham (S.C.) are still struggling in the face of House Democrats’ ongoing impeachment investigation. This weekend on the Fox show Sunday Morning Futures, Graham resorted to an angry tirade about the identity of the whistleblower whose complaint helped reveal the Ukraine scandal and thereby sparked the impeachment inquiry. Although the whistleblower’s identity is still officially hidden, Graham seems to have been reading up on internet theories about their identity, and he angrily spouted this slanted information to the nation this weekend.

To be clear, there is no “deep state,” a term used to refer to some kind of imagined organized conspiracy within the halls of government where oh-so-scary career government officials work to supposedly undermine Trump. He doesn’t exactly need help turning his time in office into a mess!

Still, Graham angrily asserted to the world:

‘When you find out who is the whistleblower is, you will find out it’s somebody from the deep state and had interactions with Schiff and this thing’s going to stink to high heaven. The only reason we don’t know who the whistleblower is is that it hurts their cause. They’re not trying to find the truth here. If you really wanted to know the truth about why Joe Biden said what he did about the prosecutor — if you don’t fire this guy, we’re going to cut off the money — well let’s find out, was Hunter Biden in the crosshairs of the prosecutor? This is not about Schiff finding the truth. This is about Schiff trying to destroy the Trump presidency.’

Graham is making up a controversy where there’s not one. At the time that then-Vice President Joe Biden insisted that Ukraine fire a top prosecutor, officials around the world were doing the same thing, because he was widely believed to be corrupt. The explicit, stated concern was that the prosecutor wasn’t looking into enough corruption, not some scheme to protect Hunter Biden.

Graham and his fellow Trump-allied Republicans don’t seem overly concerned with these facts, to put it lightly, and keep defending Trump’s call for Ukraine to investigate the Bidens.

Graham went on to launch into some familiarly Trumpian angry conspiracy theories about more of what the “deep state” is supposedly doing.

He told host Maria Bartiromo:

‘Here’s what they don’t want you to know. They don’t want you to know that the whistleblower was on the Brennan team, if he was. They don’t want you to know that he’s tied to the people who falsely got a warrant against Carter Page four times. They don’t want you to know that he’s tied to the group that set up a counterintelligence investigation of the Trump campaign in 2016. It would blow them out of the water if in fact the whistleblower was connected to a Democratic candidate and came from the CIA world that’s been trying to destroy the Trump presidency since before he got elected.’

John Brennan was the CIA Director. If the whistleblower was a CIA agent, what on earth was he supposed to do — not work under the direction of the leader of his agency?

Besides — a majority of the claims that the whistleblower made in their initial complaint have been verified by testimony from a number of other administration sources. It’s been confirmed that the Trump team sought to tie “everything” Ukraine wanted to them producing that dirt on the Bidens.
