Tension crackled as reporters and observers lined the Capital Hill hall waiting for the first impeachment hearings in decades to begin. Then, things began to stir. Something was happening.
As one of the Capitol Hill security guards waved a metal detector wand around Pissi Myles, C-SPAN broadcast images of her making her way to the hearing room. In a sea of Capitol Hill blues and grays, she walked in with her gigantic bouffant blonde wig and drop-dead red dress and matching heels.
She was reporting the historic events via her cell phone in the room housing the televised impeachment hearing into Donald Trump’s activities with Ukraine.
NBC News Correspondent covering politics/government ethics Heidi Przybyla sent this tweet:
‘Just arrived for #ImpeachmentHearings Someone did ask me last night if there’s anything in DC that surprises me anymore. @JohnBrabender’
Myles told NBC News:
‘It’s a crazy day in Washington! I’m flipping my wig over the high-energy proceedings today. Tensions are high, and the bar for who’s allowed in the Longworth House is very, very low.’
According to Myles bio, she is recognized as:
‘[A]n award-winning drag performer, comedy producer and winner of Philly Drag Wars and Miss Fish NYC who performs regularly in the New York area. Myles is also a regular performer in Fire Island Pines, a largely gay male summer vacation destination, and has a podcast, “My Gay Spooky Family.”‘
Myles’ husband and business partner David Ayllon said she was there to cover the hearings. She has been planning a new startup app Happs:
‘They scouted him out at his Barracuda show on Sunday. I do know they were looking for a comedian who could improve on the spot and deliver the news in a fun way.’
Myles planned to cover the hearings live Wednesday via Twitter.
