The official White House Twitter account, not that of the real Donald J. Trump, sent out a tweet. It seems that the administration does not think the impeachment hearings are going well for him. At first, POTUS went after Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, but the whole White House decided they needed more ammunition.
It sent out a tweet noting Vindman’s had been a direct report to Tim Morrison, and he was allegedly concerned about the colonel’s judgment, according to CNBC:
‘Tim Morrison, Alexander Vindman’s former boss, testified in his deposition that he had concerns about Vindman’s judgment.’
The official White House Twitter account has largely reflected what Donald Trump has been posting. This specific tweet displayed a quote from Morrison, who was serving as an expert on all political things Russian before he left his job.
The most powerful result of this tweet was that it became crystal clear that the president and all of his spokespeople had every intention of going after the currently serving military man assigned to work for the administration. Vindman continues to work for the National Security Council.
The increasing attacks on Vindman appear to be the White House’s point of the spear against the impeachment hearings. That may not have been the best idea. Vindman, his father, and his four brothers all served in the military to protect Americans against all enemies without and within the U.S.
Vindman’s father and mother escaped from Jewish persecution in Russia and came to the U.S. when Vindman and his identical twin brother were just three-years-old.
POTUS indicated that he did not know the Army colonel. The White House apparently intended to focus on the inaccurate tact that Vindman has been working to undermine the president’s plans and that he was a great concern in other ways.
Communications director for the Donald Trump campaign Tim Murtaugh tweeted that the military man:
‘[A]pparently believes that HE’S the one who makes & coordinates U.S. policy. This may come as a shock to him and the Democrats, but the President of the United States makes U.S. policy. Case closed.’
One of the president’s most vocal supporters, Representative Jim Jordan (R-OH) also questioned Vindman’s judgment. He said:
‘Your boss had concerns about your judgment, your former boss, Dr. [Fiona] Hill, had concerns about your judgment, your colleagues had concerns about your judgment, and your colleagues felt there were times when you leaked information,. Any idea why they have those impressions?’
It seems, Vindman was forewarned about this. He read from a personal evaluation from Dr. Fiona Hill. She considered him a “top one percent military officer” and he “exercises excellent judgment.”
Vindman also noted that a second national security officer, Tim Morrison, another national security official had questions about the colonel’s judgment. Vindman indicated that might have just been a difference in “work culture and a lack of familiarity.
Conservative television commentators hinted that since Vindman speaks both Russian and Ukrainian, he might not be a 100 percent American. The Republican’s counsel Steve Castor pointed out that the Ukrainians offered him a top defense job in their country.
Trump’s attorney and radio host Jay Sekulow called that “highly unusual:”
‘I’m not questioning his loyalty to the country, it just seems odd to me that the guy would be offered three times the ministry of defense for a country that just happens to be in this case Ukraine.’
