The deeper the House Intelligence Committee’s impeachment hearings delve, the worse it gets for Donald Trump. Gordon Sondland donated $1 million to the president’s treasure chest and bought himself a significant job as Ambassador to the European Union (EU). Unfortunately, Trump got a very difficult situation in the deal.
Sondland testified before that there were not two channels to Ukraine, only one channel. It led from the president to Trump’s TV attorney Rudy Giuliani and directly to the Ukrainian government. It totally avoided the career subject matter experts aka ambassadors altogether.
Writer/attorney Amee Vanderpool sent out a tweet that captured a knowing look between House Minority Leader Devin Nunes and the Republican’s counsel Steve Castor:
‘Check out @DevinNunes as the first part of the Sondland hearing concludes and he looks at Steve Castor with this we are totally screwed face.’

The Seattle businessman came into the hearing with no intention of staying under the bus where Trump had thrown him. To paraphrase a friend, Sondland got up, dusted himself off, and defended himself.
Then, as former Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO) noted, the ambassador herded Giuliani, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, former National Security Adviser John Bolton, acting Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney, and Trump. After that, he drove the bus off the cliff.
