On Tuesday, Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA) announced that she was suspending her campaign for the 2020 presidential bid. Harris said she simply does not have the financial resources to continue.
Harris’ husband tweeted a picture of them both, saying:
‘I’ve got you. As always.’
Harris’ niece also tweeted expressing how proud she was of her sister.
Harris emailed her supporters on Tuesday, saying:
‘I’ve taken stock and looked at this from every angle, and over the last few days have come to one of the hardest decisions of my life. My campaign for president simply doesn’t have the financial resources we need to continue.’
‘I’m not a billionaire. I can’t fund my own campaign. And as the campaign has gone on, it’s become harder and harder to raise money we need to compete.’
According to MSN:
‘The statement calls attention to a broader conversation about the role of money in politics. It seems to point a finger at fellow candidates running for the Democratic nomination – billionaire business tycoon and former New York mayor, Michael Bloomberg, and billionaire hedge-fund manager Tom Steyer.’
Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) also tweeted a message to his friend and fellow Democratic contender.
Others in the Twitter world also expressed their support for Senator Harris.
Harris concluded her email to supporters by saying:
‘But I want to be clear with you: I am still very much in this fight. And I will keep fighting every day for what this campaign has been about. Justice for The People. All the people.’
