Apparently, a prominent Fox News talking head has absolutely no problem with a regime that has perpetrated crackdowns on basic human rights, carried out a military campaign that’s included the deaths of 13,000 innocent citizens of another country and counting, and, to top it all off, enacted disinformation campaigns meant to destabilize American democracy. This week, Tucker Carlson yet again declared that he is, for all intents and purposes, on Russia’s side when it comes to their spat with Ukraine, who Putin’s regime has targeted with a devastating military takeover of Crimea. Carlson just about immediately attracted wide condemnation for his brazenly traitorous behavior.
While talking with, it should be noted, prominent Congressional Trump ally Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), Carlson had said:
‘I should say for the record that I’m totally opposed to these sanctions and I don’t think we should be at war with Russia and I think we should take the side of Russia if we have to choose between Russia and Ukraine. That is my view.’

The week prior, Carlson had made a similar flippant proclamation. He said:
‘Why shouldn’t I root for Russia? Which I am.’
As recently as September, the Trump administration announced harsh new sanctions targeting Russia in retaliation for their 2016 election meddling, which Trump personally has resisted admitting even happened. Not one but two of his Cabinet secretaries directly countered that resistance to reality in statements offered at the time of the sanctions announcement.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said:
‘Today, the United States continued to take action in response to Russian attempts to influence US democratic processes. Our clear warning: efforts by foreign actors to undermine democracy will face consequences.’
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin added:
‘This Administration will work tirelessly to safeguard our electoral process, and will aggressively pursue any other foreign actor that attempts to interfere in the 2020 elections.’
What about domestic actors that attempt to interfere in electoral processes in an underhanded way? Carlson has now repeatedly insisted that he’s on the side of a murderous totalitarian regime because… reasons. The first time he said as much recently, he claimed he’d made the remark to “trigger” the left, or whatever. So now, life-and-death issues of global relations are just an edgy joke to him. Great! It’s no secret that President Trump watches Fox News a lot, so the more of their talking heads that take this position, the more acutely dangerous it is for the U.S.
As author David Rothkopf put it:
‘So, just to be clear, the position of Fox is that it supports our enemies. (And make no mistake, they’re an enemy. They attacked us in 2016, sought to undermine our democracy, and seeks to undermine us daily around the world. Not-so-bright Tucker is aiding and abetting them.)’

It’s unclear if Fox News execs are even willing to acknowledge Carlson’s belligerence.
Political consultant Eric Garland quipped:
‘Fox News: Foreign political warfare operation. Tucker Carlson: Traitor. I don’t use the T-word lightly. But if your country is attacked and you openly take the side of the attackers, well, if the treason fits, wear it at EDVA. Reasons the word “traitor” applies here: Putin is an enemy of the United States, the author of gruesome war crimes, and a blight on humanity. Fox News is running his PR. Case closed.’
