As the 2020 election keeps getting closer, President Donald Trump’s conspiracy theory about former Vice President turned Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden’s supposed corruption just isn’t going away. This week in Iowa, a local voter challenged Biden over the baselessly supposed corruption, and the Democratic frontrunner directly denounced that voter as a “damn liar.” The voter had alleged that Joe “sent” his son Hunter to work at a corrupt Ukrainian gas company, which then-Vice President Biden then turned around and protected. That just didn’t happen.
After letting the man finish his initial rant, Joe asserted:
‘You’re a damn liar, man, that’s not true. And no one has ever said that, no one has proved that.’
After the accusatory voter chimed in again, the former vice president continued:
‘You said I set up my son to work for an oil company, isn’t that what you said? Get your words straight, Jack!’
To be clear — that alleged cooperation in support of that corrupt Ukrainian energy company never happened. There is not a single shred of demonstrable evidence actually tying any decisions Biden made as vice president to his son’s work with the company, which is called Burisma Holdings. That son, Hunter, has acknowledged that he employed “poor judgment” in joining the company while his dad was vice president. However, then-Vice President Biden pressured Ukraine to fire a top prosecutor who’d looked into Burisma over them not being tough enough when it came to actual corruption.
This week in Iowa, that voter also challenged the former vice president’s age, suggesting he was too old to properly serve as president. To be clear, he’s barely any older than President Donald Trump himself is at present. Trump was the oldest president to ever be inaugurated in 2016.
Biden told the complaining rally attendee:
‘Look, the reason I’m running is because I’ve been around a long time and I know more than most people know and I can get things done — that’s why I’m running… You want to check my shape… let’s do push-ups together, man. Let’s run. Let’s do whatever you want to do. Let’s take an IQ test.’
After the incident, Biden told CNN that he intends to keep campaigning on his perceived strengths that have nothing to do with the Burisma nonsense, but he added that he does anticipate that the attacks will continue. He explained:
‘I have overwhelming respect and love for my son and I find myself occasionally getting frustrated at assertions being made that just are simply not accurate… but as my son would say — ‘Dad just keep your cool, just don’t let it get to you.’ And I’m not — I’m just not going to let myself respond to the kind of assertions Trump is making because that’s just playing into his game.’
The conspiracy about baselessly supposed Biden corruption is at the center of the ongoing House impeachment inquiry into Trump. He sought to have Ukraine investigate the conspiracy theory before they got already approved military aid meant to help them defend themselves against Russia. The scheme got revealed before it was completed.
