Trump Publicly Admits To Ukraine Extortion With Desperate New Excuse

This week, President Donald Trump might have further realized how stuck he really is with the currently ongoing House impeachment inquiry. Following a public hearing on Wednesday by the House Judiciary Committee featuring four Constitutional law scholars discussing the legal basis for impeaching Trump, he took to Twitter with an acknowledgment that he’d asked Ukrainian authorities for a “favor.” The Trump admin sought to exchange military aid and a D.C. summit for those investigations into the Democrats over completely baseless allegations of corruption, which constitutes the core of a documented quid pro quo scheme. Trump now says he asked for those investigations for the benefit of the country — or whatever, which simply doesn’t fit with reality.

He tweeted:

‘When I said, in my phone call to the President of Ukraine, “I would like you to do US a favor though because our country has been through a lot and Ukraine knows a lot about it.” With the word “us” I am referring to the United States, our Country. I then went on to say that ”I would like to have the Attorney General (of the United States) call you or your people…..” This, based on what I have seen, is their big point – and it is no point at a all (except for a big win for me!). The Democrats should apologize to the American people!’

He can come up with whatever excuse he wants, but the reality of the situation remains that the investigations he sought over baseless allegations that Joe Biden is corrupt and that the Democrats hid the real culprit behind 2016 election meddling stood to benefit his campaign in particular, and that’s about it. There’s no grand altruistic purpose behind him dredging up completely nonsense claims in a phone conversation with a foreign leader.

Besides, the allegations he mentioned are, quite simply, baseless. The company that handled Democratic tech security and supposedly facilitated the transfer of a hacked Democratic email server to Ukraine is not Ukrainian. Additionally, there’s no evidence tying then-Vice President Biden’s pressure on Ukraine to fire a corrupt prosecutor to that individual’s previous, then-closed inquiry into a company Biden’s son worked with. There was no basis for the claims besides political expedience.
