Graham Launches Angry Pelosi Attack In Post-Impeachment Flail

Following the official impeachment of President Donald Trump, Republicans are continuing to freak out. Now, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), who’s also a prominent Trump ally, has publicly lashed out against the suggestion that the House could hold onto the articles of impeachment until the Senate agrees to an actually fair trial. Graham made up a new phrase for the wrongdoing that he alleges — “Constitutional extortion” — but his outrage is richly ironic considering that just recently, he insisted that he would definitely not be an “impartial juror.” He can’t have it both ways and legitimately argue both for and against fairness, although he’s trying to anyway.

He melodramatically railed:

‘If House Dems refuse to send Articles of Impeachment to the Senate for trial it would be a breathtaking violation of the Constitution, an act of political cowardice, and fundamentally unfair to President @realdonaldTrump. Not allowing the Senate to act on approved Articles of Impeachment becomes Constitutional extortion and creates chaos for the presidency. It also sets in motion a tremendous threat to our Constitutional system of checks and balances.’

THAT creates chaos for the presidency??? Has Graham followed any of the news out of the White House at any point since Donald Trump took office? Has he ever checked Donald Trump’s Twitter feed? Democrats are not the ones creating the chaos in this situation.

To be clear, although Graham called the possibility “Nancy Pelosi’s threat,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) never even said that she was explicitly considering indefinitely delaying the transfer of the articles of impeachment at her initial press conference after the vote. All she said was that she and her fellow Democratic leaders would watch Senate deliberations over trial parameters closely, and then they’d make their decisions, including naming managers for the House’s case.

The Constitution does not lay out a timetable for sending the articles of impeachment from the House to the Senate, so it’s unclear what legal basis that Republicans would even have for complaining about a delay. Graham suggested that the possibility of a delay reveals that Democrats “finally realized they have a very WEAK case which NEVER should have been brought forward to begin with,” but the evidence against the president is publicly available.
