President Donald Trump is not taking his impeachment well. This past Wednesday night, as the House was taking their final votes on the articles of impeachment including charges of abuse of power and obstruction of justice, he ranted at a rally against Michigan Democratic Congresswoman Debbie Dingell in response to her support for impeachment, suggesting her late husband John could be in hell. Hillary Clinton has now joined those speaking out against Trump for his attack, which he, of course, has personally acknowledged no issue with, no matter its brazenly and grossly egregious nature.

Hillary tweeted:

‘@JohnDingell was everything that Trump is not—a true public servant and statesman in a way this president knows he can never be. I’m so proud of what @DebDingell has done to carry on John’s work in Michigan and Bill and I are standing with her today.’

At that rally, Trump had brought up his decision to, in line with basic dignity, order flags to be flown at half mast after John Dingell passed away. He suggested that he should have been repaid for that with opposition to impeachment. Like his wife, Dingell served as a Democratic member of Michigan’s Congressional delegation, and he was the longest serving member of Congress ever.

Trump said:

”She calls me up: ‘It’s the nicest thing that’s ever happened. Thank you so much. John would be so thrilled. He’s looking down. He’d be so thrilled. Thank you so much, sir.’ I said, ‘That’s OK, don’t worry about it.’ Maybe he’s looking up, I don’t know. I don’t know. Maybe. But let’s assume he’s looking down.’

Some people picked up on audible groans from the crowd when Trump made the hell implication, but that doesn’t erase the fact that he said it.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has also been among those to speak out against the president’s belligerence.

She commented:

‘It’s very sad… The president clearly is insecure when it comes to statespersons, whether it was John McCain — think of what he said about John McCain and his supporters just overlooked that. John McCain. Now John Dingell.’

Indeed — Trump’s history of responding to even the slightest pressure by angrily lashing out stretches far.
