Trump’s Former Campaign Manager Cowers Out Of Senate Race

President Donald Trump and his allies are plotting ways to consolidate control of government in the upcoming 2020 elections, but their plans aren’t panning out. Former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, who left the vacancy that the infamous Paul Manafort eventually filled, has now revealed that he will not be running for a U.S. Senate seat in New Hampshire after all. He never had much of an apparent chance in the race to begin with, considering the Cook Political Report currently rates New Hampshire Senator Jeanne Shaheen’s Senate seat as “solidly Democratic.”

Lewandowski, who has stayed close with the president even after ending up without any official position, announced his backing out of the Senate race that he’d been publicly considering joining on Twitter, where he posted:

‘After much consideration I have decided to forgo a campaign for the US Senate. While taking on a career politician from the Washington swamp is a tall order, I am certain I would have won. My priorities remain my family and ensuring that @realDonaldTrump is re-elected POTUS.’

There is no apparent actual evidence supporting his confidence in his Senate run that apparently won’t actually happen after all. He’s even mired in some very serious scandals, considering the battery charge that he faced after grabbing a female reporter covering the Trump campaign and a late 2017 sexual assault allegation from the Trump-supporting singer Joy Villa. That didn’t exactly stop Trump from throwing his support behind a potential Lewandowski run anyway. In an interview ahead of a rally in the state, he commented:

‘I think he would be fantastic… I will say this — if he ran, he would be a great senator. If he ran and won, he’d be a great senator. He would be great for New Hampshire. He would be great for the country.’

In reality, as New Hampshire Democratic Party spokesman Josh Marcus-Blank noted, Trump and Lewandowski have led “efforts to take away health care from tens of thousands of Granite Staters.”

Concurrently, there’s not much evidence for the confidence that Lewandowski would like to apply to his attempt to support Trump’s re-election campaign in what for now is an unofficial capacity. Trump consistently loses when pitted against former Vice President and leading Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden in polls measuring hypothetical general election match-ups.
