Like someone who feels like every day he desperately has to prove that he’s not an abject failure, over the weekend, the president’s son Donald Trump Jr. posted a straightforwardly ridiculous image to Instagram of himself holding a rifle whose magazine had been decorated with an edited image depicting none other than Hillary Clinton behind bars. While President Donald Trump’s recklessness drags the U.S. and Iran closer to war, this is how his son — a prominent political voice in support of his dad — is spending his time.
In what sane universe does the son of the president of the United States proudly pose for social media with a deadly weapon that has an image of one of his father’s political opponents attached to it?

The side story here is that the son of the president of the United States is serving as a de facto spokesperson for a weapons company. He’s using his name, which is as relevant as it is only because of his father’s status, to make them money. Spikes Tactical put up an Instagram post over the weekend with an image of their “Hillary for Prison” gun magazine, writing that there’d been “lots of questions about it” and they were “going fast.” In other words, the president’s son’s re-enactment of outlandish internet rhetoric didn’t stop with the content. Rather, he continued right into the segment where he asks you to buy something ridiculous.
Recently, Trump Jr. scored second place in a SurveyMonkey poll asking Republicans who they might vote for in the 2024 presidential race, when Donald Trump Sr. will hit his term limit if he happens to win re-election. His sister and actual presidential adviser Ivanka Trump finished in fourth place. (First was Vice President Mike Pence, and third was former Trump admin United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley.) This desperate far-right garbage is the kind of material Trump Jr. is continuing to offer in the meantime.
