GOP Senators Want Answers From Trump Over Bolton Lies

The president threw Republican senators under the bus Sunday when former administration member John Bolton’s new book reveals that Republicans had been lying about the fact that Democrats allegedly wanted to call witnesses with no firsthand knowledge of the Ukraine scandal. Republicans are now apparently blindsided hearing Bolton’s own claims that he does, in fact, have information about the illegal extortion that the American public should hear.

According to NYT’s Maggie Haberman, GOP senators are now quietly asking for answers as to why they were not let in on the fact that Bolton’s book was going to ruin their trial smear campaign.

Haberman tweeted this Monday morning:

Republicans claim they were totally in the dark when it comes to information the White House has regarding Bolton’s book revelations, which is pretty hard to believe since they have been lying and showboating throughout the entire trial process.

The hubbub started Sunday night when Haberman tweeted out a letter showing that the White House knew about the revelations about a month ago:

According to POLITICO:

According to the Times, Bolton writes that Trump told him he would continue to suspend the critical security assistance until Ukraine helped him with the investigations.

Trump’s response to this is just what you’d expect. The president claims:

“I NEVER told John Bolton that the aid to Ukraine was tied to investigations into Democrats, including the Bidens. In fact, he never complained about this at the time of his very public termination. If John Bolton said this, it was only to sell a book. With that being said, the transcripts of my calls with President Zelensky are all the proof that is needed, in addition to the fact that President Zelensky & the Foreign Minister of Ukraine said there was no pressure and no problems.”

People went nuts instantly, and not just GOP senators. Check out what people on Twitter are angry about below:
