It is still rare these days to see a Republican break with the Trump administration. However, It has recently happened. Republican Senator Mitt Romney (UT) was the only one who voted to charge Trump on articles of impeachment.
Now, a Trump’s former Navy secretary has endorsed Democrat Michael Bloomberg for president. In a release on Friday morning. former Secretary of the Navy Richard Spencer said:
‘I have the utmost confidence that Mike will faithfully execute his duty as Commander in Chief.’
According to ABC News:
‘The two men are expected to address a group of veterans and military families in Norfolk, Virginia, home to the world’s largest Navy base, where Bloomberg will unveil plans to support the military.’
Spencer said that part of the reason he is endorsing Bloomberg is due to how he believes Bloomberg can serve the military community. He feels that Bloomberg will heed the advice of military advisers, restore America’s world standing, and help veterans.
‘According to FEC reports, Spencer has consistently supported Republicans in the past and has given large donations to the RNC and to Mitt Romney’s and George W. Bush’s presidential campaigns.’
After Trump acquitted Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher after he was convicted of posing with the dead body of a teenage ISIS figher, Spencer was forced to resign for condeming the president’s actions.
Bloomberg, though, has been accused of paying influencers to make him seem cool. After the Iowa caucuses, he announced that he intended to capitalize on the chaos of it by doubling his advertising campaign.
