Schumer Calls For Inspector General To Investigate Trump

On Tuesday, Donald Trump intervened in the sentencing of Roger Stone, an associate of his who was found guilty of lying under oath to protect the president. Trump tweeted very publicly that the recommendation of 7-9 years in prison was outrageous, and would not be tolerated.

Trump tweeted this Tuesday morning:

This is a horrible and very unfair situation. The real crimes were on the other side, as nothing happens to them. Cannot allow this miscarriage of justice!

Soon after, the Department of Justice sent a memo to the judge in the case requesting a new recommendation of “far less” prison time. Three prosecutors on the case resigned immediately due to the unlawfulness of the Trump Administration, and now Chuck Schumer is demanding that the Inspector General do an investigation into the president.

Schumer tweeted:

The DOJ Inspector General must open an investigation immediately. I will be sending a formal request to the IG shortly.

People on Twitter were in agreement that the president had quite some nerve using his office to obstruct justice only days after being acquitted for that exact crime.
