It is hard to picture Secretary of Treasury Mnuchin without thinking of him exposing newly minted paper money alongside his third wife, Scottish actress ss Louise Linton. That photo is a reminder of the garish excesses of the top one-percenters, billionaires who could not possibly spend their fortunes in this life — unless they maybe bought a country. So what is Mnuchin up to right now?
During a Tuesday meeting with the House Ways and Means Committee, Representative Bill Pascrell (D-NJ) addressed Mnuchin.
Mnuchin expressed outrage during the Tuesday hearing after he was accused of breaking the law with “staggering lies.”
Donald Trump’s secretaries tend to follow the boss’ treatment of people outside of his narrow circle. Mnuchin sounded confident as he went on the attack.
Bill Pascrell (D-NJ) confronted Mnuchin. He wanted. to see the president’s taxes in Congress:
‘This isn’t going to be pretty.It is impossible to be polite to corruption and people who break the law. So by refusing to turn over Donald Trump’s business and personal tax returns to this committee, I think you’re breaking the law. The only think you suffer is smug rhetoric and staggering lies.’
Then, the secretary responded:
‘Let me just comment.’
Pascrell refused to let Mnuchin off of the hook:
‘I asked a question.’
Mnuchin shot back:
‘I’m commenting because I find it offensive that you’re telling me that I’m breaking the law and staggering lies.;
The Democrat sensed he was winning and said:
‘I asked you tell me why you’re not breaking the law.’
Mnuchin responded:
‘Just to be clear. There’s a third branch of government and there are courts that interpret things. This is in the courts and the courts will deal with it. So, that’s your interpretation of that law. I’m relying upon legal counsel on what is our interpretation of the law.’
Pascrell reacted by saying:
‘Neither are you.’
