Mike Pence should probably go get tested as soon as he can, if he hasn’t been already, because new reports out Tuesday morning claim that a student was quarantined after testing positive for coronavirus just days after his classmates shook hands with the vice president.

According to Sarasota Military Academy:

One of our students and his mother are currently quarantined as a precautionary measure due to the mother’s contact with a patient at Sarasota Doctors Hospital in her professional role.

Our student and his mother currently are not showing any symptoms and are in good health and spirits. We will keep you and your families updated with their status. Please remember to consistently and thoroughly wash your hands.

We are continuing to disinfect all classrooms and common areas as we have previously done due to flu season. We will continue to work with the District and the Sarasota County Health Department for advisement after an 11am conference call.

The Herald Tribune reported that Mike Pence and members of the Pentagon were in contact with people from the school:

The school is in constant contact with the cadet and his mother, who are not exhibiting any symptoms of coronavirus, Bowman said, noting that parents should keep students who have a fever or not feeling well home to avoid sharing any viruses.

On Friday, SMA senior cadets shook hands and posed for photos with Vice President Mike Pence, who was visiting Sarasota for a fundraiser at U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan’s house.

The Pentagon has been in touch with the school about the student.

Col. Christina Bowman, executive director of schools at SMA gave the following statement:

“I want our parents and employees to know we are safe. We’ve been proactive on sanitizing and teaching our students how to make sure they are watching their hands. We are working with the health department and making sure we are following their protocols. At this time, they are not recommending any exclusions. They are recommending we go about our business every day.”
