Trump-Endorsed Restaurant Owners Hit With Backlash

Donald Trump is a well-known junk food junkie. He even went so far as to feed cold junk food to a winning sports team or two who may have envisioned an elegant sit-down meal in the White House. Imagine what that congealed grease must have been like. Now, POTUS is hawking a new restaurant. There is just one problem.

Donald Trump tweeted about this Arizona Mexican restaurant. Here’s why:

The food is GREAT at Sammy’s Mexican Grill in Phoenix, Arizona. Congratulations to Betty & Jorge Rivas on doing such a wonderful job. I will try hard to stop by the next time I am in Phoenix. Support Sammy’s!’Screen-Shot-2020-03-03-at-8.14.27-AM Trump-Endorsed Restaurant Owners Hit With Backlash Economy Election 2020 Featured Politics Top Stories

A week after the president visited Phoenix, AZ, he was spending his precious commander-in-chief time marketing the restaurant. Now, why would he do that? It appears POTUS may not have even eaten at the fast-food joint.  After all, when Trump showed up for a rally at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum a couple of month ago, it was a quick in-and-out visit.

In an early morning tweet, POTUS said, according to AZCentral.com:

‘The food is GREAT at Sammy’s Mexican Grill in Phoenix, Arizona. Congratulations to Betty & Jorge Rivas on doing such a wonderful job. I will try hard to stop by the next time I am in Phoenix. Support Sammy’s! @foxandfriends.’

Unfortunately, the restaurant owners may not appreciate the presidential nod. Jorge and Betty Rivas have long supported the president. They attended his rally in February sitting in the VIP section.  She was all decked out in a hat that read “Latinos Love Trump.”

As a result of the president’s shout-out, the two owners have been suffering a whole lot of social media attacks, starting with negative reviews and complaints. Some have even threatened boycotts.

The couple’s restaurant page shows a video where Jorge said:

‘Please, do something else with your time, like going to educate yourself. Do something for your family, and stop harassing us. I think it just shows that you are not very smart. … Your behavior is very stupid. I would appreciate if you would stop doing that.’

The restaurant owners wore Trump hats in the video. It ended with Betty giving the president a thumbs up and Jorge with a positive message:

‘Trump 2020. Of course he will win again. Landslide.’

Jorge Rivas told Fox News people were boycotting their restaurant:

‘And they started to boycott us and telling people, “Don’t go to that restaurant. They are nasty. They are racist. This is an awful place to go.”‘

Threats followed, he said:

‘People know that anyone as an American has the right to support whoever you want. … In a way, this turned out to be pretty good, thankfully. I personally feel that to me, staying quiet and saying, “Oh, I’m not going to express my opinion because they might attack me,” that will go against what I believe. That will go against what America stands for.’
