President Donald Trump does not seem like he’s looking forward to the general election. This Friday morning, he took to Twitter with a freakout over former Vice President Joe Biden, who’s one of the last two major candidates in the Democratic presidential primary race. (The other is Bernie Sanders.) Trump claimed that he’d always protect Social Security and Medicare and Biden would supposedly slash it — but Trump is literally on a tape from the night before saying that he’d “be cutting entitlements.” The tape is right there, from hours ago, and Trump is still accusing Joe of what Trump himself is actually proposing.
Besides tweets about job growth and signing Coronavirus response funding, Trump posted:
‘I will protect your Social Security and Medicare, just as I have for the past 3 years. Sleepy Joe Biden will destroy both in very short order, and he won’t even know he’s doing it!’

There’s no indication that as president, Biden would cut either one of those programs. Yet — here’s the quote from Trump laying out that exact plan for his own team. During a Fox News town hall that aired on Thursday night, Trump said:
‘The economy is the best economy we’ve ever had. It’s nothing compared to what it’s gonna be when the trade deals kick in… we’ll be cutting, but we’re also gonna have growth like you’ve never had.’
Before the comment about cutting, a host had chimed in with the suggestion that the administration would have to cut entitlements, and Trump found no problem with it. And on paper, in reality, Trump already “plans to privatize Medicare,” one commentator pointed out.

In response to Trump’s commentary on Fox News, Biden himself had tweeted:
‘Here’s the deal, folks: social security is on the ballot this year, and the choice couldn’t be clearer: I’ll protect and expand it. Donald Trump will cut it and take it away.’
