Jim Acosta is known by liberals as a champion journalist who has taken Trump to task on more than one occasion, and even sued after Trump blocked him from White House press events. Trump was forced to allow Acosta back in, but the tensions haven’t stopped there.
Since the coronavirus started making waves in America, Trump and his evangelical leader of the virus task force, Mike Pence, have made some questionable moves, including the president rebuking CDC findings about the deadliness of the virus.
Late Friday, the White House held another press conference to update the public about the virus, but Acosta was already fed up with the way things had been going previously, so he asked Mike Pence:
“Is the president addressing the situation with the seriousness it requires?”
“When exactly will a person who feels like they may have coronavirus, can they go into their doctor’s office and get a test?. In addition to that, Mr. Vice president, just a short while ago, the president described Governor Inslee of Washington state, who you just met with, as a ‘snake.’ And he also described the coronavirus test, compared it to the phone call that he had with the leader of Ukraine. Is the president addressing the situation with the seriousness it requires?”
Pence’s response was…dumb:
“Well, I promise you that President Trump has no higher priority than health and safety of the American people, And he’s assembled an extraordinary group of Americans and agencies. I’m a little more than a week into leading the White House coronavirus effort and I couldn’t be more proud and more impressed with the team that the president assembled. But I think your first question is a very important one, Jim. And I appreciate it.”
“The president’s exactly right that for the state laboratories, for the communities that have been impacted, that have concerns about the coronavirus, we have been able to respond to requests for tests.”
Acosta asked the question because earlier in the day, trump attacked Washington Democrat Jay Inslee over criticism of the responses to the pathogen that has claimed 12 lives in Washington alone.
It all happened after Inslee tweeted this:
I just received a call from @VP Mike Pence, thanking Washington state for our efforts to combat the coronavirus.
I told him our work would be more successful if the Trump administration stuck to the science and told the truth.

Afterwards, Trump demanded that Pence not show any courtesy to Inslee, which led to questioning yesterday about that move. Here is what Trump said about his hissy fit:
“I told Mike not to be complimentary of the governor because that governor is a snake, okay? Inslee. I said if you are nice to him, he will take advantage and I would have said no. Let me just tell you we have a lot of problems with the governor… The governor of Washington, that’s where you have many of your problems, okay?”
“So Mike may be happy with him but I’m not, okay? And he would say that naturally, and as I said last night at the town hall, if we came up with a cure today and tomorrow everything is gone, and you went up to this governor who is, you know, not a good governor by the way, if you went up to this governor and you said to him, ‘How did Trump do?’ he would say he did a terrible job. it makes no difference. If we came up with a cure right now and tomorrow everything ended at 8 o’clock tomorrow morning, everything ended, he would say, ‘Trump did a horrible job.’ Okay?”
“And I told Mike that would happen. I said no matter how nice you are, he’s no good. That’s the way I feel.”
People on Twitter responded to Inslee’s tweet in force, and many of them had some choice words for Donald Trump. You can see the top reactions left on the post below:
