Amidst the ongoing, economically crippling Coronavirus outbreak in the U.S., Donald Trump Jr.’s priorities apparently lie with dunking on critics of his dad. Besides a boatload of retweets lavishing praise on the Trump administration’s Coronavirus response, he shared a thread on Twitter this Friday chronicling an array of instances in which public health professionals and members of the media criticized President Trump’s restrictions on travel from China as the Coronavirus got underway. The president’s son probably intended the thread as a “gotcha!” moment, but we don’t need racist “gotchas”! We need Coronavirus tests and decisive action from the federal government.
Trump Jr. commented:
‘f you read and RT one thread this year it should be this. Afterwards I think you’ll want to thank @realDonaldTrump for taking such decisive action against Wuhan despite nonstop hate and nonsense from the media who ran with the Dem talking points.’

Recently, President Trump and some of his allies have been insisting on referring to the Coronavirus as the “Chinese virus” or something of the sort. There’s not a single reason to use that moniker — the virus itself obviously does not have Chinese ethnicity, and it’s spread across the globe. More people have been infected and died outside of China than in the country, where the first outbreak emerged. But Trump Jr. and others are still focusing on the president’s antagonism of China anyway, in apparent willful ignorance of the major gaps in domestic action.
Across the country, medical professionals need crucial supplies like respirators, ventilators, and Coronavirus tests, but this gross display of ego is where the Trumps are focusing. The country doesn’t need more travel bans, which Trump has also imposed upon travel to and from most countries in Europe, like it needs comprehensive pandemic response work, which Trump has so far struggled to come up with, at best. The virus is already here.
