This weekend, Ivanka Trump returned to… whatever exactly it is that she does in the White House. Few have ever been able to quite pin down her “job” responsibilities. Over the weekend, she retweeted a message from New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D), who called on listeners to show “kindness” and “compassion” as the Coronavirus crisis rages and hits New York especially hard. Ivanka added her own comment, insisting that the governor was correct. The problem is that her glib participation seems willfully ignorant of the reality of the administration she works for, which not only hasn’t modeled “compassion,” but whose leader — her dad — has mockingly criticized Cuomo himself, repeatedly.
Ivanka commented:

“Love, compassion and respect” — is that what her father had in mind when he flipped out on an NBC reporter recently for asking the simple question of what the president would say to scared Americans? Trump appears to have taken the mere notion that any Americans are scared as a threat to his ego and the public image of his administration, but there are a lot more issues at stake here!
Speaking of which, while Americans could use the “values” that Ivanka noted in some respects, they don’t need a sermon (let alone one from a Trump). They need tangible assistance considering the economy has largely ground to a halt with efforts to stem the spread of the Coronavirus. Businesses have closed, and unemployment claims have soared to astronomical levels. Ivanka didn’t mention any of that.
